DNS record
A typed instruction in DNS that directs traffic or publishes information for a domain or hostname.
Definition
DNS records are typed entries in an authoritative zone. Common examples include A or AAAA address records, CNAME aliases, MX email routing records, and TXT records used for verification or policy. The exact set should be inventoried before a migration.
Why it matters
A clean website launch can still break business email if the DNS record inventory is incomplete.
Common misunderstanding
Not every DNS record belongs to the website. Some support mail, security, ownership verification, or third-party services.
