NAP consistency
The practice of keeping a business's name, address, and phone information accurate and logically consistent across important listings.
Also called: NAP, name address phone consistency
Definition
NAP consistency focuses on the core identity details customers and platforms use to recognize and contact a local business. Normal formatting differences are less important than conflicting, outdated, duplicate, or misleading information.
Why it matters
Accurate identity data reduces customer confusion and supports maintenance of business profiles and citations.
Common misunderstanding
The goal is not character-for-character uniformity at any cost; it is accurate representation of the real business.
