Dashboard
A consolidated view that presents selected metrics, events, statuses, or alerts for a defined decision or operating task.
Also called: dashboards, reporting dashboard
Definition
A dashboard combines information from one or more sources into a visible monitoring or reporting surface. A useful dashboard names its sources, definitions, date range, refresh behavior, and the action each view is intended to support.
Why it matters
A well-scoped dashboard can shorten the distance between a signal and a decision without forcing people to reconcile multiple systems by hand.
Common misunderstanding
A polished dashboard does not prove the data is complete, comparable, current, or tied to a useful business question.
Ownership implications
Document who controls the source accounts, connectors, calculation logic, access, and exports behind the view.
Business implications
Keep only views that support a real decision, exception, or operating rhythm; more charts do not automatically create more insight.
