Do Not Track
A browser preference signal asking sites not to track the user's activity.
Also called: DNT
Definition
Do Not Track is sent as an HTTP preference when enabled by the browser. The signal expresses a request, but each website or service determines whether and how it honors it, and broad industry support has remained inconsistent.
Why it matters
If a privacy notice says a service honors DNT, the deployed tracker behavior should be tested against that exact claim.
Common misunderstanding
Turning on DNT does not technically block every tracker, cookie, request, or log by itself.
