Workflow

A defined sequence of actions, decisions, handoffs, and states used to complete a repeatable piece of work.

Also called: workflows

Definition

A workflow identifies its trigger, required inputs, responsible people or systems, approval points, exception handling, outputs, and completion state. It may be manual, automated, or a combination.

Why it matters

Making the workflow visible exposes delays, duplicate entry, unclear ownership, and safe opportunities for automation.

Common misunderstanding

Automating one action does not repair a poorly defined end-to-end workflow.
