Customer action

A useful next step a customer takes, such as calling, requesting a quote, booking, visiting, buying, or making a qualified inquiry.

Also called: customer actions, valuable customer action, qualified customer action

Definition

A customer action is defined by the business outcome and the visitor's decision stage. It may be a direct sale or inquiry, but it can also be a meaningful intermediate step such as viewing a high-value service, checking availability, comparing options, or continuing to a relevant guide.

Why it matters

Naming the valuable action helps connect website structure, calls to action, measurement, and improvement work to something the business can use.

Common misunderstanding

Not every click is a valuable action, and an analytics event is not automatically a lead or sale. The business still needs to interpret quality and outcome.
