Glossary · Privacy and data governance
First-party data
Data a business collects through its own direct relationships, properties, and interactions.
Definition
First-party data may include inquiries, purchases, account activity, consent records, website events, support history, and customer preferences. Collection still needs a purpose, access controls, retention decisions, and accurate disclosure.
Why it matters
Owned evidence can support better decisions and customer service without making the business wholly dependent on rented platform audiences.
Common misunderstanding
First-party does not mean unrestricted; privacy, security, consent, and legal obligations still apply.
