Orphaned page
A page with no ordinary internal links pointing to it from the website.
Also called: orphan page, orphaned pages
Definition
An orphaned page may exist in a sitemap, analytics record, external link, or direct URL while remaining disconnected from the site's normal internal-link structure. The page may be intentional, obsolete, or simply forgotten.
Why it matters
Disconnected important pages are harder for visitors and crawlers to discover and often reveal content-governance or migration gaps.
Common misunderstanding
Listing a URL in an XML sitemap does not replace a useful internal link or prove the page belongs in the site architecture.
