Request log

Definition

A request log commonly records time, method, route, response status, and technical network or client details according to configuration. Logs can support reliability and abuse diagnosis while also containing sensitive or personal information.

Why it matters

Useful logs need access controls, documented fields, retention limits, and a clear diagnostic or security purpose.

Common misunderstanding

Logs are not automatically complete, anonymous, permanent, or appropriate to copy into ordinary documents and chat.
