Glossary · Search and local visibility
Search intent
The underlying task or decision a person is trying to complete when they enter a search query.
Definition
Search intent can involve learning, comparing, locating, buying, booking, troubleshooting, or navigating to a known entity. A useful page matches the real task with appropriate depth and a sensible next action.
Why it matters
A page can mention the right phrase and still fail if it answers the wrong question or pushes a sale before the visitor can evaluate the decision.
Common misunderstanding
Intent is an evidence-based interpretation, not a permanent label attached to every occurrence of a keyword.
