Structured data
Machine-readable fields that describe visible entities and content using an agreed vocabulary and supported format.
Also called: schema markup, Schema.org
Definition
Structured data can identify an organization, breadcrumb trail, service, article, product, event, or other supported entity using explicit properties. It should represent truthful content visitors can also find on the page.
Why it matters
It can reduce ambiguity for search and other systems and support eligible enhanced presentations when platform requirements are met.
Common misunderstanding
Adding schema markup does not guarantee a rich result, ranking, or inclusion, and invented fields can create policy and trust problems.
