Umami

An open-source web-analytics application that reports configured page views and events through dashboards and an API.

Also called: Umami Analytics

Definition

Umami is third-party analytics software that can be operated in a self-hosted environment or through the vendor's hosted service. A site sends configured page views and events to an Umami installation, which stores and reports them according to that installation's settings.

Why it matters

Umami can provide a distinct first-party measurement view, but its numbers still depend on tracking configuration, filtering, uptime, and documented definitions.

Common misunderstanding

Umami is supporting analytics infrastructure, not a Boho-built selected tool, and using it does not guarantee complete, consent-free, or directly comparable data.

Ownership implications

Record who controls the installation, domain, database, site identifiers, access, retention, exports, and upgrade path.

Business implications

Use Umami to answer defined questions and keep its measurements source-labeled when comparing them with Cloudflare, Google Analytics, forms, or search data.
